On the BBC World Service debate on climate change yesterday, there was a panel that included the heads of state of Australia, Mexico, the Maldives, and Sweden. At the end, the moderator gave Di-Aping, curiously sitting in the audience, an opportunity to provide the G77 position on COP15, and he reiterated Desmond Tutu's line that no deal is better than a bad deal. But before he was able to finish his point, Mohamed Nasheed, president of the Maldives, loudly interrupted and said his country was also part of the G77, and totally disagrees with Di-Aping's view, getting a big applause from the audience. More generally, Nasheed was the fan favorite and the big winner of the debate.
