But is this actual "money in the bank"? You mention that the CIF "has pledges of over $6 billion dollars to date." Has any of these pledges come through yet, or do they materialise only when there is a spending plan? I don't know a whole lot about how international finance works, but I tend to be a bit wary of pledges, given past experience... This is indeed encouraging news.

Hopefully it will be channelled to the most efficient places, that will have the most successful impact. What a beautiful and diverse continent, it would be devistating for us to continue to see degradation occuring at a rapid rate without anyone taking responsibility for what we are doing to the planet.
